The Honorary Consulate of Romania team of 30+ volunteers, including our Ukrainian friends, came together at the Annual Picnic & Volunteer Recognition event held at Transilvania Restaurant and Bar on July 28th to celebrate the volunteer efforts behind:
➡️ having hosted the National Day of Romania in Connecticut in December 2023 with a full artistic program featuring classical and traditional music, fine arts exhibits, book sale, Romanian cuisine and speeches from local politicians and community leaders;
➡️ setting up cross-border educational exchanges between Connecticut and Romania with help from Iuliana Roata and Mark Twain International School Bucharest;
➡️ welcoming the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AmCham) business delegation;
➡️ starting an initiative focused on biomedical research with Biomentorhub to connect young Romanian researchers to mentors in the Diaspora;
➡️ successfully advocating for legislative and policy changes benefiting the Romanian-American community;
➡️ compiling a list of scholarships, internships and other helpful college admissions resources for children of Romanian descent and congratulating the recent high school graduates Matei Panaitisor and Stefan Cordas who were admitted to prestigious colleges based partly on their volunteer efforts in support of the Honorary Consulate of Romania;
➡️ welcoming back Alessandra Gavriloiu from competing and winning medals for synchronized swimming on behalf of the USA team in her age group;
➡️ supporting various charitable causes outlined by Father Daniel Moldovan, supporting local churches and charitable partners such as the Chrysalis Center, Inc.;
➡️ celebrating Ukrainian gymnast Taisiia’s birthday and supporting her financially with her upcoming gymnastics competition while training with Romanian-American coaches at Kratos Gymnastics.
