The Honorary Consulate of Romania to Connecticut introduced Lieutenant General Iulian Berdila, Romania’s Deputy Chief of Defense for Operations and Training, as a speaker on “NATO at 75” at the World Affairs Council of Connecticut’s Global Security Forum held at Goodwin University. His insights on the Romanian Armed Forces' contributions to NATO, including in light of the war in Ukraine, were truly enlightening. Lieutenant General Berdilă's impressive military career and leadership in strengthening Romania's defense posture as a strategic U.S. ally and NATO member are truly commendable:
➡️ Special Advisor to the SHAPE Command Group within NATO, working closely with U.S. General Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and Commander, U.S. European Command
➡️ Commander of the Romanian Land Forces where he played a pivotal role in strengthening the operational capabilities of the Romanian Land Forces, enhancing their integration within NATO, and ensuring their preparedness to meet the demands of modern warfare
➡️ Operational experience includes commanding troops during several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan
➡️ Educational experience includes a Master of Military Arts and Science (MMAS) degree in Theater Operations from the US Army School of Advanced Military Studies and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the US Army War College, both of which institutions inducted him in their respective Hall of Fame.
➡️ Throughout his career, Lieutenant General Berdilă has been honored with numerous national and international awards, including the Romanian Military Command Virtue in Knight Rank, the US Bronze Star, and the Ehrenkreuz der Bundeswehr in Gold, reflecting his exceptional service and dedication both in Romania and within the broader NATO framework.
